WHAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT FEBRUARY?


Here at Butterflies and Wishes we will be celebrating with a Chocolate Theme for the month of February.  We are offering a Chocolate Tea Service as well as our Valentine's Tea Service.  We will be continuing our Hygge vibe throughout the month of February where we embrace a feeling of cozy contentment, a mood of comfort and well-being, the pleasure of simple things, prioritizing what really matters—comfort, connection, simplicity, and joy.  Hygge is about creating a warm atmosphere and enjoying the good things in life – often together with good people.  

We invite you to The Tea Nook, where you will find a casual, relaxing atmosphere and vibe where you can enjoy baked items, specialty tea beverages (including hot and iced tea, boba/bubble tea, iced coffee, hot coffee).    Our Seasonal Bubble Tea and Latte's are back in season along with new specialty beverages and winter flavored tea blends.   Creme Brulee is back and can be prepared as a bubble tea, hot tea, iced tea and latte.   Our new addition is  a place where you can enjoy down time, sit and relax on our comfy sofa with your favorite tea and book, snack on your favorite scone and sweet or just chat with your bestie.  There's even a little book nook where you can peruse our gently read books, which are also available for purchase at a discounted price, while enjoying your favorite tea beverage and baked item.  We love art and have several murals painted by local artists.  We have a beautiful butterfly mural where you can take selfies and post them to your favorite social media platform. ​We are continuing to add new fun things for you to enjoy.  We are excited to be collaborating with local small businesses in the area and will be offering their products in our shop.   You will find their gems throughout our tea shop.   We will be "Spilling the Tea" with them via live videos on social media to get to know more about their products, how they got into their business and more. 

February is unique among all months due to leap year.  This quirk of the calendar has led to some interesting facts and traditions.  In leap years, February has 29 days instead of 28. This extra day is added to keep our calendar aligned with the Earth’s revolutions around the sun. February was almost eliminated from the calendar by Julius Caesar’s astronomers when they were creating the Julian calendar around 45 BCE. Instead of removing February, they decided to add the leap day to this month every four years. February can sometimes pass without a full moon – this astronomical event is called a ‘Black Moon’ and occurs approximately once every 19 years. The chance of being born on February 29th is about 1 in 1,461. People born on this day are sometimes called “leaplings” or “leapers.” In some traditions, women are allowed to propose marriage to men on February 29th. This custom is known as “Bachelor’s Day” or “Ladies’ Privilege.”

February 16 brings Presidents’ Day, a federal holiday also known as Washington’s Birthday that is celebrated on the third Monday in February. (George Washington’s actual birthday is February 22!)
February 17 is the Chinese Lunar New Year. Celebrated widely throughout East Asia, this holiday begins with the first new Moon after the Winter Solstice and is associated with the Chinese Zodiac.
February 17 is also Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.
February 17 is Mardi Gras (aka “Fat Tuesday” or Shrove Tuesday), which is the final feasting day before the Christian tradition of Lent begins on the following day, Ash Wednesday.
February 18 is Ash Wednesday, which marks the start of Lent.On average, February is the United States’ snowiest month, according to data from the National Weather Service.
February is African-American History Month. The Library of Congress, National Archives and Records Administration, National Endowment for the Humanities, National Gallery of Art, National Park Service, Smithsonian Institution, and United States Holocaust Memorial Museum join in paying tribute to the generations of African Americans who struggled with adversity to achieve full citizenship in American society.

February’s Full Moon reaches peak illumination on Sunday, February 1, 2026. Look skyward on that night to catch the best view of this Full Moon!  It’s known as the Snow Moon due to the typically heavy snowfall that occurs in February. Other traditional Native American names for this Moon include the Eagle Moon (Cree), Raccoon Moon (Dakota), and Hungry Moon (Cherokee)
