WHAT IS SO SPECIAL ABOUT JANUARY?

​In the Northern Hemisphere, January is the coldest month of the year in most regions. The best type of weather to celebrate January National Hot Tea Month.  Here at Butterflies and Wishes we will be celebrating the entire month with fun contests, facts, recipes and more all centered around "TEA", of course, and the warm cozy vibes of HYGGE (hoo-gah). The Danish concept of comfort, warmth and coziness.   We will admit there are other holiday's and fun things about January, and here are a few. 
 January 1 is New Year’s Day. While you’re still recuperating from the prior night’s parties, HERE  some other New Year’s traditions you might not know about and celebrate:
  • Making a lot of noise and light—from fireworks to gunshots to church bells—seems to be a favorite New Year’s pastime across the globe.
  • In Thailand, it was once a tradition to fire guns to frighten off demons.
  • In China, firecrackers routed the forces of darkness.
  • In Denmark, they throw plates and glasses against each other’s front doors to banish bad spirits.
  • In Ecuador, it is tradition to burn the effigies of famous people to destroy bad “juju” from the past year and start fresh.
  • In the early American colonies, the sound of pistol shots rang through the air.
  • In the United States today, many watch the ball drop in New York’s Times Square.
  • In other countries, many folks wait for the church bells or the chimes of clock towers to ring out.
  • January 5 brings Twelfth Night, an English folk custom that marked the end of Christmas merrymaking and, in ancient Celtic tradition, the end of the 12-day winter solstice celebration. On Twelfth Night, it was customary for the assembled company to toast each other from the wassail bowl.
  • January 6 is Epiphany. According to the New Testament’s Gospels, on this date, the Magi—the three wise men or kings—venerated and brought gifts to the infant Jesus. Bake a beautiful Epiphany Tart or a King Cake with a lucky bean inside!
  • January 17 is Benjamin Franklin’s birthday. He was not only a world-renowned statesman, inventor, and scientist but was also fascinated by agriculture. 
  • January 19 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day (observed). This holiday is held on the third Monday in January and honors the principles of this civil rights leader and Nobel Prize Winner dedicated to nonviolence.

  • January 1: Z Day (On this day, those whose last name begins with “Z” get to go first instead of last.)
  • January 3: National Chocolate-Covered Cherry Day
  • January 6: National Bean Day
  • January 8: Elvis Presley’s Birthday
  • January 10: National Houseplant Appreciation Day
  • January 14: National Dress Up Your Pet Day
  • January 20: National Penguin Day
  • January 22: National Answer Your Cat’s Questions Day
  • January 29: National Puzzle Day

  • We invite you to The Tea Nook, where you will find a casual, relaxing atmosphere and vibe where you can enjoy baked items, specialty tea beverages (including hot and iced tea, boba/bubble tea, iced coffee, hot coffee).    Our Seasonal Bubble Tea and Latte's are back in season along with new specialty beverages and winter flavored tea blends.   Creme Brulee is back and can be prepared as a bubble tea, hot tea, iced tea and latte.   Our new addition is  a place where you can enjoy down time, sit and relax on our comfy sofa with your favorite tea and book, snack on your favorite scone and sweet or just chat with your bestie.  There's even a little book nook where you can peruse our gently read books, which are also available for purchase at a discounted price, while enjoying your favorite tea beverage and baked item.  We love art and have several murals painted by local artists.  We have a beautiful butterfly mural where you can take selfies and post them to your favorite social media platform. ​
  • We are continuing to add new fun things for you to enjoy.  We are excited to be collaborating with local small businesses in the area and will be offering their products in our shop.   You will find their gems throughout our tea shop.  But most of all, join us for NATIONAL HOT TEA MONTH.  Lots of fun, games and prizes.
